Previous Chair of NNNG Andrea Cartwright promoted to Consultant Nurse Status

By on May 31st, 2012

On behalf of the NNNG I would like to offer warm congratulations to Andrea Cartwright who has been promoted to the role of Consultant Nurse in Nutrition at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and takes up her new role on 1st June 2012.

Andrea qualified at the London Hospital Whitechapel in 1986 and worked in a variety of nursing roles. In 1994 she became a Nutrition Sister at Oldchurch Hospital before taking the role of Nutrition Nurse Specialist in Basildon in 1998.

Since then, her achievements in nutrition have been very impressive. Andrea joined the NNNG in 1994, taking on the Secretary role from 1994 -1998, and then again in 2001 -2007. She took on the Chair’s role from 2007 – 2010. During this time Andrea represented the NNNG and nutrition nurses on so many national initiatives, most notably the formulation of the NICE Guidelines in 2006 and the Royal College of Physicians Oral Feeding Difficulties and Dilemmas in 2010. Andrea became a BAPEN council member and in 2009 became the first nurse to be offered the position of Senior Executive Officer within BAPEN. Andrea has published a broad range of nutritional topics as well as presenting several poster presentations.

Her commitment to the NNNG has been clear by her drive and leadership of the group to the point where I took over the mantle of Chair in 2010, receiving very firm foundations to build on for the future.

I am delighted that her hard work, dedication and knowledge has been recognised and the group has another Consultant Nurse in Nutrition, I am sure you will join me in congratulating  this success.
